Come and say hello at Florence Road Market
Nutritious Fish began purely as an online home-delivery business - and that's still the primary focus. But an opportunity came up recently which was too good to turn down...
Florence Road Farmer's Market - located between the Round Hill, Fiveways and Preston Park areas of the city - has been running successfully for several years, during which they had some regular fish-sellers. When we recently paid a visit we got chatting to Ben Szobody who manages the market and he asked if we would like to run a regular stall. We jumped at the chance to get involved.
We're always really keen to meet new customers and spread the word about the benefits of eating more fish - not to mention how quick and easy it is to prepare. We'll be taking a regular stall at 'Flo' Road' for the foreseeable future, so please come and pay us a visit on Saturdays between 9.30am and 1.30pm.
If you've never visited the market, you might be surprised (as I was) what a buzzy local community hub it is. Not to mention the fantastic selection of local produce on offer. This includes street food stalls, craft sourdough breads, farm-fresh milk, artisan British cheeses, cured and butchered meat direct from the farmer, plus fruit and veg from Rock Farm, grown by a wide mix of volunteers and vulnerable people near Steyning in West Sussex.
We're aiming to have a good selection of our prepared fish fillets (salmon, rainbow trout, hake etc.), fresh mackerel, plus our lovely rope-grown mussels on offer each week. Working out what to take along each week presents a few challenges we don't experience with our online business. But we're already learning what everyone likes, and it's been great meeting and chatting to everyone over the last fortnight.
Being at the market on Saturday mornings means we've had to push our Saturday delivery slots a little later into the afternoon, and there's fewer of them. But we deliver on Fridays too and have plenty of availability. We're actually finding Fridays are often more convenient for people than our Saturday slots.

Twenty-day old supermarket fish - no thanks!
When we launched Nutritious Fish, we'd recently seen an episode of Horizon called “The Honest Supermarket: What’s Really in Our Food?” - did you see it? Dietitian Priya Tew and fish specialist Richard Chivers lifted the lid on supermarket fish.
Priya and Richard tested cod fillets from five different supermarkets and 30% had already gone off and some were believed to be up to 20 days old! We've never wanted to eat supermarket fish ever again - in fact, why would you when you live by the sea and can buy much fresher fish locally?

Recipes, prep tips, health advice & more...
We wanted to highlight to you a really useful website which is packed with free information.
Fish is the Dish is the consumer arm of Seafish, a government-funded body supporting the UK seafood industry. They seek to help people learn how easy it is to cook fish, the range of availability of seafood plus its health benefits. For starters, you'll find lots of great recipes there, and the 'how to' section is also really helpful.
Thank you for rating us highly!
Thank you to those of you who have completed one of our post-purchase customer feedback surveys. We love hearing what you think, and it's always really useful to read your comments and suggestions - please keep them coming!
We're delighted to say that our customers rate us very highly - we have a Net Promoter Score (NPS) of 75. NPS is calculated by asking "How likely is it that you would recommend Nutritious Fish to a friend or colleague?" and the majority of you said you would, so our score is well above-average (the lowest possible score is -100 and the highest possible score is +100)!
Our research also told us that customers are very happy with all aspects of our offering, across our whole product range. We scored:
5 out of 5 on quality, taste and freshness
4.9 out of 5 on our compostable packaging
4.8 out of 5 on value-for-money
